Whaling Today

About

“Whaling Today” was created in late 2019 as a platform to provide information and opinions about whaling and related issues. Given the prominence of anti-whaling sentiment and written materials available in English today, the website mainly aims to present opinions and writings in favor of whaling, although balanced pieces from any viewpoint will be considered.

This website is supported by the nonprofit Institute of Cetacean Research (ICR), the main whaling research organization in Japan, and JAPAN Forward, a Tokyo-based online newspaper that is part of the FujiSankei Communications Group.

The site is edited and administered by Jay Alabaster, an American doctoral student at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication studying media issues related to whaling and cetacean hunting in modern Japan. He can be reached at jay.alabaster(at)asu.edu.
