On June 23, DENSO Corporation revealed that it was collaborating with Suntory Beverage & Food on a "horizontal recycling" project.
The system allows plastic bottles collected at DENSO's headquarters in Aichi Prefecture's Kariya to be recycled repeatedly, almost indefinitely. By effectively reusing resources, the companies aim to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society. Further details on the collecting and sorting process of the plastic bottles were revealed to the press.
DENSO employees are encouraged to follow a simple protocol. After drinking from a plastic bottle, they remove the cap and crush the empty container. Then, they deposit the bottle into any of the three designated collection stations set up at the company's headquarters.
DENSO, Raising Employee Awareness
These collected bottles are sorted and cleaned by the company's specialized subsidiary, DENSO Blossom. Then, a subsidiary of Toyota Tsusho takes charge of processing the bottles into reusable materials. The materials are then "reborn" as plastic bottles to be filled up by Suntory Beverage & Food.
To ensure a streamlined process, DENSO's collection points mirror the layout of a manufacturing line. Their strategic placement at the entrances facilitates effortless disposal for employees entering or leaving the headquarters. DENSO's approach has also helped raise its employees' environmental awareness.
DENSO is an automotive equipment maker and supplier with its home headquarters in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The company works closely with the automotive industry and is committed to tackling SDGs in its product lines as well as its corporate lifestyle.
