Xander Schauffele Wins the Baycurrent Classic in Yokohama

Golfer Xander Schauffele, who was tied for the lead heading into the final round at Yokohama Country Club, claimed his 10th career title on the PGA Tour.

American Xander Schauffele shot a 7-under 64 in the final round of the PGA Tour's Baycurrent Classic and earned a one-stroke victory over Max Greyserman.

Schauffele completed the four-round event, the lone PGA Tour tournament in Japan, at 19-under 265 on Sunday, October 12 at Yokohama Country Club.

Heading into the final round, Schauffele and Greyserman shared the lead at 12-under 201. Greyserman had an even-par 71 on Saturday, while Schauffele, who won the Olympic men's golf tourney at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, had a 4-under 67 in the third round.

A day later, Schauffele was the better golfer, wrapping up the event with a 64, including eight birdies. Greyserman shot a 65 and finished in second place in Japan's PGA Tour event for the second straight year.

Both men shot a 63 in Friday's second round.

Xander Schauffele Ends Title Drought

Schauffele captured his 10th PGA Tour title, winning a tournament for the first time since July 2024 when he triumphed at the British Open.

The 31-year-old, whose Taiwanese-born mother was raised in Japan, has coped with a rib injury in 2025.

"I think every player in any sport, at some point in time you feel like you're on top of the world and then you feel like, not that you've lost it, but you feel less confident," Schauffele said, according to BBC Sport after winning the Baycurrent Classic.

"It was a rough year, but my team dragged me through it," added Schauffele. "They pick me up when I'm down. Hopefully, I'm catching my stride. It was a big learning experience with the injury this year."

Schauffele also acknowledged he's grateful to end his title drought in Yokohama.

"I was running out of events in 2025 to sort of put my mark on it," he was quoted as saying by Agence France-Presse. "[And] I'm sure when I look back on 2025 at the end of my career, I'll smile and think it was a great year."

This tournament, previously known as the ZOZO Championship, was formerly held at Narashino Country Club in Inzai, Chiba Prefecture. In December 2024, an announcement was made that the event name and location had been changed.

Kanaya, McCarty Finish Strong

Japanese golfer Takumi Kanaya had Sunday's second-best score with a 9-under 62. Only American Matt McCarty had a better 18-hole performance in the final round, carding a 60.

Kanaya finished in a five-way tie for fourth at 14-under 270, posting his second top-10 finish in a PGA Tour event this year.

Colombian Nico Echevarria, who won the 2024 ZOZO Championship, tied for ninth in Yokohama at 13-under 271.

Kazuki Higa tied for 18th at 9-under 275, with Hideki Matsuyama and Ren Yonezawa among seven competitors who tied for 20th.

Thitikul Beats Katsu in Five-Hole Playoff in Shanghai

Thailand's Jeeno Thitikul defeated Japan's Minami Katsu in a five-hole playoff to win the Buick LPGA Shanghai tournament on Sunday, October 12.

On the par-4 10th hole, which was set up as the fifth playoff hole, Thitikul made a birdie. Katsu had an even-par score on the hole.

As a result, Thitikul won the tournament by one stroke. It was the 22-year-old Thitikul's sixth LPGA Tour title.

Thitikul carded a 9-under 63 in the fourth round to finish the four-round event at 24-under 264 at Qizhong Garden Golf Club.

Katsu shot a 7-under 65 in the final round, matching Thitikul's score and forcing a playoff to determine the winner.

"Obviously not winning is kind of disappointing, but [I'm] really happy how solid I played throughout the week," Katsu told a news conference.

Reminded at the media gathering that she had competed in a playoff for the first time on the LPGA Tour, Katsu responded with an upbeat answer.

"Yes, definitely a great experience," she said. "I'm sure that I'll have more opportunities like that. I also noticed that I can become a lot stronger, so I'm really excited for the future."

Also for Japan, Miyuu Yamashita tied for fourth with a 17-under 271.
