GEN3 EVO: Latest Race Car Unveiled Ahead of Tokyo E-Prix

Formula E's GEN3 EVO hits 60 mph in 1.82 seconds, accelerates 30% faster than an F1 car, and will race in the Tokyo E-Prix this May.

The GEN3 EVO race car was unveiled at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building on February 8 ahead of the upcoming Tokyo E-Prix. The global EV race is set to take place in Ariake, Tokyo, this May.

Part of the Formula E World Championship and organized by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the 2025 Tokyo E-Prix will be the city's second Formula E race. Tokyo hosted its first in 2024, during Formula E's 10th season.

Speed and Performance

Formula E cars resemble Formula 1 in shape but run entirely on electric power, with no engines or fuel.

The GEN3 EVO, the latest Formula E racing car, boasts enhanced acceleration, reaching 60 mph (96.5 kph) in just 1.82 seconds. At the unveiling event, Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds highlighted its four-wheel drive capability, noting that it accelerates 30% faster than an F1 car.

Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike shared her excitement, saying, "This is a race where you can feel the sound and vibrations in your core. It's thrilling to witness top-level racing right before our eyes. Let's all make this event a great success together."

The Tokyo E-Prix will take place on May 17 and 18 on a specially designed circuit around Tokyo Big Sight.
